What CNC Prototyping Does
CNC prototyping uses the production process and the production material to make a small number of parts for fit, function and assembly testing. It is useful when the prototype must behave like the final part.
The process is a good fit for functional tests, threads, bearing fits, sealing surfaces and parts that will move to production without a material change.
Typical Prototypes
We machine prototype housings, brackets, shafts, bushings, manifolds, fixtures and precision components in aluminum, steel, stainless, titanium and engineering plastics. Parts can be one-offs or small batches.
Tolerances and Inspection
Critical features are verified with CMM or the agreed method. The prototype drawing should identify the features that will be tested and the inspection method, so the result can be compared with the production part.
What to Specify
State the function of the prototype, the material, the critical features, the tolerance, the surface finish and the test requirement. If the part will move to production, share the target process and the expected volume.
Request a Quote
Send your drawing, STEP file, material, quantity, tolerance, test requirement and destination. Our engineering team responds within 24 hours.
Applications
We machine functional prototypes, fit-check parts, assembly samples and bridge-to-production batches.
State what the prototype must prove: fit, function, assembly, sealing, strength or appearance.
FAQ
What condition should I specify?
State what the prototype must prove: fit, function, assembly, sealing, strength or appearance.
Can you provide material certificates?
Yes. Material certificates, heat-lot traceability, FAI and CMM reports can be included in the RFQ.
What tolerances can you hold?
Tolerances are confirmed by feature. Critical features can be verified with CMM; a blanket tight tolerance is usually unnecessary and expensive.
